Find something better to legislate!

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

I know this is my first post and it is a strange thing to dedicate it to, but this just irritates me to no end. This evening "the House passed a bill Wednesday that would make it illegal to dodge parental-consent laws by taking minors across state lines for abortions." Here is what I do not understand. Why is this at the top of the national legislative agenda? With poverty, a crumbling education system, a war that is bankrupting the country, why are they spending their time on women’s reproductive rights? I wonder if the House was full of women if they would spend time legislating issues pertaining to men’s health.

People from other countries laugh at our national agenda. We espouse democracy but some of our concerns read theocracy. Fine, if we want to build a country based on the Bible why not focus our concerns on social justice, helping the poor, the stranger, etc.

Leave women alone. The patriarchal society is dead. Except in congress, I guess.

To make a difference, go to http://www.plannedparenthood.org/pp2/portal/getinvolved/takeaction/

and see how your representative voted and then give him (probably) or her (less likely) a piece of your mind for better or for worse. And watch those judges President Bush is trying to appoint. Soon birth control will be outlawed.
